Harmonia is playing at ATP-NY, which I am totallye excited about. Seeing Faust at a small venue (where Lee Ranaldo told me to shush during a Zeena Parkins performance) was a highlight of the 1990s for me, perhaps Harmonia will be a highlight of the 00s for me.
That 1994 concert, come to think of it, had quite a lineup: AMM, Gate (Lee Ranaldo), Faust, Zeena Parkins, Tony Conrad, Keiji Haino, Psychic Hearts (another Sonic Youth side project). I was in college and totally annoyed Thurston Moore and Keiji Haino who were sitting in a van with the sliding door open. Also it was Freaknik weekend, so it was like incredibly hard to get around the city.
sometimes listening to torch of the mystics makes life better. my march-april has been totally hectic. on the plus side, i have tickets for radiohead and, more importantly, black moth super rainbow, x, and the insane my bloody valentine thing. hopefully everything else doesn’t suck too much, but those should be good. nobody wants to go see dio and motorhead with me though because my friends are all lame-os.
funny post about having a car in the city by some dude who apparently is my neighbor. that is some serious car trauma. someday i will own a car and an apartment and a semi-functional blackberry. life is still ok without that stuff too.
I kind of want to hate on him, but his ability to consistently step up his game makes it hard. The new single does obviously recall Arthur Russell, but he adds funk from sources that are more like Ricardo Villalobos (one the one hand) and Yello (on the other) than they are like Bootsy Collins. I saw him with 10 million other people (inlcuidng MTV’s John Norris!) in NYC last summer, which didn’t make up for not seeing the Boredoms with 77 drummers, but was pretty ok in its own way.
